Transformers
June 27 2009
part 2
After the garage sale Liz and I jumped on the subway and headed to see Transformers II in IMAX. I thought we may be sleepy after the sale but we both where wide awake. Once we hit the movie theatre an hour early but the line was already long. YIKES! I was nervous that maybe we would be in the front part of the cinema which for IMAX sucks. Liz is always great at finding seats and she spun her magic and found us 2 great seats.
The movie I thought was excellent. Now it's not going to win any awards for character or plot but as Saturday afternoon popcorn flick it was great. I would maybe call it robot porn. But I loved it. IMAX is the only way to see this flick, it was made to be seen in Imax.
I would say 8 out of 10
After the movie Liz and I jumped back on the subway and we went to our favorite restaurant "our Thai place". We love the "Thai place" and we go there so much that the ladies that work there always remember us and are super nice. The food was great as always.
Back on the subways and we where ready for our bed.
What a great Saturday. :)

I second that! Saturday was an excellent day. The weather was great. The garage sale was fun and the movie was a blast. LOVE Imax! I'd definitely recommend seeing Transformers a second time if you didn't see in Imax first time around. And I could live on Thai food - always sooooo yummy. And our Thai food was paid for from our garage sale money so we weren't out of pocket for the dinner! Nice!

Garage sale
June 27, 2009
Well it was time for our garage sale or, as Liz likes to call it, operation get rid of Garry's shit. We thought we didn't have that much stuff but we decided it maybe fun. I sold a lot of dvd's on craigslist and I mean lots...way better then I thought.
Up we get at 6 am and start the set up, tables up, stuff out and then, just after 7:20, our first customer. Great! Not even set up and here comes 2 people. I hate the early people as you're not ready and they are picking through your stuff. So I leave and keep bringing stuff out. Liz's stays with the people and takes their cash. Wait did she make a sale already?? Hey where is all the stuff..is Liz giving away my stuff as I work?? NOPE. Outside for 20 mins and Liz has sold $150.00 worth of stuff..WOW, great start!
The rest of the day was steady but not as many people as last year. The time went by fast and at 1:00pm Liz and I were done. That's enough for us and to be honest in the afternoon people stop coming and stay up for 2 an hour no thanks. We gave tons of stuff away and packed up the dvds to see if I could sell some more on craigslist.
A weird thing did happen at the sale: Jack (my dad) put out tons of sign's out on the street pointing people to the sale but when he went out to the store around 9am all his sign's where gone. Just weird and kinda fucked...some people are just...well whatever.
We ended up making about $320.00 which was great and I now love people that come to our sale early as they where just about 50% of our sales.
Will we do it next year? To be honest we're running out of stuff to sell. But maybe right Liz??

Toronto 24 hour film race 2009
June 26,2009
Friday night we thought we would go see the 24 hour film race. What it is? Well, people have 24 hours to make a ahort film. The topic this year was PAYBACK.
I thought most of the films where boring. Liz was way more forgiving and I think she may have really liked the films. I could not agree, but that's OK.
Maybe the theme was not for me. Liz really likes it so I guess I may go back next year. That will be her call.
On a positive note we had an OK dinner outside on a nice patio as the weather was excellent.
I think I will let Liz talk about the films if she want, but to be honest I was not really into any of the films.

I think it's amazing that anyone can create, from scratch, a 3 minute movie in 24 hours! And it's not on just any topic they like - they're given a set topic (in this instance pay-back) and an action that needs to be included (here it was spraying perfume) and once they have that information they have 24 hours to their submission dead-line! Needless to say, production values are not always the highest but that's to be expected with time and buget constraints. For a short movie I really don't mind that too much. There were a few gems in there like Snip, about a dog who pays back his owner after getting the snip.
It's definitely a bit of risk when you go to these things but that's part of the fun! And in this case I think it was worth it.

Moon -- the movie
Thursday June 25 2008
Last night Liz and I went to see the movie Moon. It was ok but very slow. Critics loved it and that should have been my first clue. The concept was good but it was just very dull and the pace was very slooooow . I thought Liz would have liked it more then me but she agreed. ( Note to self please remember that for future reference)
The film was directed by David Bowie's son although I am not sure why that matters but people mention that when talking about this film...whatever.
So i would give it like a 5 out of 10
The best part was that we got to see the movie for free, thanks to Polaris (Toronto sci-fi convention), so that was cool
Safe to say, we will not be buying the blue-ray of this film.

Liz's Company BBQ
June 24 2009
Last night Liz's company had their annual BBQ. Last year I was so excited about going that I made Liz go. I think she should go and show her face as bosses usually like that stuff, even if they're not sure who you are. BUT how could anyone not remember Liz - OK well at least her hair and her GREAT looking companion (that would be me).
The BBQ was OK, not the same buzz as last year though. The food was great. It was nice to see all Liz's work mates and put a face to people I only hear her talk about.
We left early after attacking the Ice Cream Truck. I still cannot believe that an ice cream trucks pulls up outside of this beautiful huge house in downtown Toronto and I can get anything I want FOR FREE....talk about a big man's dream :) So Liz had her ice cream and I had a chocolate shake and off we went, home.
All in all a good night and I am sure I will make her go back next year, if only for the ice cream.

Can't Stop The Serenity and The Proposal
June 20 2009
Liz and I thought we would have a garage sale today but the weather would not have it. Rain came down all day so we canceled and we're going to try for next weekend.
Since the garage sale was a wash out we decided to go to "our" theatre, the Bloor, and see the movie (I know, shocking) Serenity. This was a charity screening for Equality Now. I have seen the movie maybe 5 times and Liz has seen it at least twice. It was good but the quality of the print was just crap. We should have stayed home and watched the movie on our 60" TV! I think we will cross that off the list for next year. At least it was for a good cause.
June 21 2009
On Sunday we went to see the Proposal and, believe it or not, it was pretty good. It was funny and the story was ok. I know CHICK FLICK, but hey what can i say..it was good
I would say 6.5 out of 10
After the movie we just had dinner with Jack (my dad) as it was Father's Day. Pasta and cupcakes = two of Liz's favorite foods.
Another weekend down. Lets hope for better weather next Saturday so we can have our sale - fingers crossed.

Who Party 14 - Doctor Who Convention
Saturday June 13th, 2009
Best Western Primrose Hotel Downtown Toronto
This was Liz's and mine first Dr Who convention. We both loved it. A small convention of about 275 but it was alot of fun and was well run. We will be back next year for sure.
Great talks and interviews. We loved Robert Shearman, a writer from Doctor Who and a really nice guy. There where lots of other guests there but the guy that stole the show was Toby Hadoke. He did a great one man show called Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf and I tell you it was great. Liz loved it.
You can download the full play on i-tunes and if you like Dr Who then you definitely should.
Can't wait till next year. We will be there !!!

He really was in the very far corner against the back and side walls. He knew there was a stage and that Neil Gaimon was on it but only coz I confirmed it for him afterwards lol. I would NOT have been happy there but Garry was a star and gave me the good seat. (Although am now realizing that it's only because he knew he'd be blogging about this - oohhh he's good.)

Neil Gaiman in Toronto
June 8 2009----An Evening With Neil Gaiman
Jane Mallett Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts
So Liz does a lot of stuff I like so I thought I would do something she was more into then me (I know, SHOCKING). That being said I kinda of like Neil but his books just don't touch me the way they do Liz. I do love to listen to the man talk though so it was nice to get tickets. This event was sold out in 3 minutes! I got us tickets BUT the problem was I got 2 single seats. The first ticket was a great one in the 3rd row and the other was in the last row...guess which seat I got lol.
The talk was great and Neil was very warm and a great speaker. Even though my seat was last row it was still a great seat. I did have fun getting texted from Liz asking me how my seat was..that's love...yeah right..
After the talk we got in line and had Neil sign a few books and make small talk with us. Very nice man. I read on line that he signed for over 3 hours but thankfully we where only in line for maybe 30 minutes.
I would go listen to Neil talk or read again anytime he is in Toronto or at any of the other events we go to.
Great evening. Maybe i should try and read more Neil. Liz would suggest that maybe I should read anything without pictures!!

Kevin Smith in Brantford
Kevin Smith in Brantford
June 6.2008
Saturday: Liz and I left for Brantford bright and early. We were off to see my favorite director, Kevin Smith, play some hockey--yes hockey. I love Kevin and I could listen to him talk for hours (in fact we have seen him alot live this past year - a week at the bloor and 2 times at Roy Thompson hall) so I'm a huge fan-boy and i am pretty sure i have Liz brain-washed. The day was fun although Brantford is kinda dull but the hockey was fun and it was sunny. Kevin did a great job in goal and it cool watching him do his best - he did way better than we thought.
At night Kevin did a live smod-cast with Scott Mosier which was really just them recapping the days events and talking about life. We loved it (hey i told you I was fan-boy)
After it was over I drove home from Brantford and I was very sleepy so i would'nt let Beecher sleep in the passenger seat. It's safe to say she was pissed - o well.
Another great adventure for us and yes, i will take her back next year.
Man i am lucky i found Liz..life would be boring without her

The final line above is just Garry's way of guilting me into participating in this blog. Don't fall for it people!

Jays Game
May 31 2009
Well Liz and I went to a Jays game. One word. Borrriinnggg. No idea what the score was or who won. I know the food and beer cost alot. The only good thing is the tickets were free but I wonder if even that was too much. The worst part is I know we will go back next year.
Come on Leafs..
garry
It really was beyond boring. How does anyone enjoy following baseball. It makes American football look interesting and that takes some doing.
