The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Well I had a rare day off from work and I thought we would go see a movie. That movie turned out to be The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Now if I am being honest I kinda liked the other 2 movies and was looking forward to seeing the third installment. It turns out that some parts were kinda slow and lots of melodrama (all these movies are full of that bullshit) but this movie is worth seeing. I really liked the wolves and thought the fight scenes were fun and done very well.

I am looking forward to the next movie and I know alot of people read the books but I have no idea what happens till I see the next movie - Liz tells me that the next movie maybe 2 parts as it's gotta be too long to fit in one movie. Either way, I really want to see the next movie / movies but don't tell anyone I have a reputation to live up to! My favorite scene was the "tent" scene - I had a few chuckles and I did feel very gay....but who cares. If you like Twilight I'm sure you've already seen this movie but if you are on the fence I say go see it

The less said the better - Garry took me under duress and now I have to be embarrassed because I actually liked it. It was a terrible movie with dubious acting skills and lots of over the top angst but I really did enjoy it. Oh and I'm all about team Jacob!

Well Dave and I went to see this concert and it was on the same weekend as all that shit that happened in Toronto with teh G20. Getting into the city was a bit crazy but it still not that bad. (The G20 is another story and to be honest I couldn't care less about that.) Cinderella open the concert and they were good but I thought the singer was kinda losing his voice and he seemed to miss some notes but I guess the 80's were 20 years ago and I should give him a break. They sang all the songs I wanted to hear and it was okay. As far as openers go I thought they fit the bill. Then the Scorpions hit the stage. It was hard for me to believe that this is the first time I saw them live. In fact I am not sure I would even have seen them this time but they're are calling this their last tour so I had to see them. They were very loud and very good. The crowd seemed to be into it even though it was raining cats and dogs, the band was having a great time and it all added up to a good concert. The best songs I thought were:
No One Like You
Wind of Change
Rock You Like a Hurricane

I'm glad I saw them before they retired and oh yeah fuck the G20!

After I saw Jonah Hex and Liz saw Toy Story 3 (yes we went to different movies) we met and snuck into the movie Get Him To The Greek. This was a great movie. The surprise thing was it was funny but also kinda serious and the story was good. Puffy Daddy or whatever he's called was really good. There was one scene where myself and another guy in the theatre were on the floor laughing. To be fair there was only 5 people in the whole theatre for this movie but it was good.

I kinda like Russell Brand, he's always funny and I love the drunk English character he always plays. I suppose it was like the second part of the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshal but there is no need to see that movie to enjoy this one.

I think if you are in the mood to see a funny movie with a good story this is a good one.

Yeah, this was not a great movie. Anyone reading this should probably NOT see it. I was at a panel about this movie at last year's COMIC CON and it looked great but it wasn't.

The best part of this movie was it was only 74 mins long which includes the credits. I did laugh at few scenes but I don't think it was supposed to be funny. Megan Fox is only in this movie for a total of about 12 minutes and she doesn't even get naked so that can't save the movie....oh well.

Don't go see this movie stay home and watch Iron Man.

It was cheapy Tuesday at the movies so we decided to go check out Karate Kid 2010. It's rare for us to go to the movies during the week (unless it's a film festival or something special) but we thought what the heck. The first thing we noticed was that it was packed which makes sense but we did forget how busy it can be. The good part was the crowd was actually pretty good and did add something to the movie by cheering during certain parts,it was actually kind of fun.

The movie was okay, not great and for me not as good as the original but was worth seeing. I should confess that I did pass out for about 10 mintues, I'm pretty sure I didn't miss much but the movie was fucking long, like over 2 hours. Will Smith's son was okay as the kid but sometimes he was OVER the top.

The movie was fun, the crowd was fun and it was a pretty good night out. I would do a Tuesday night movie again as it was kinda fun.

Well this night finished better than it started as I ordered the tickets on-line from MovieTickets.com. Note-to-self (and everyone else): avoid them and go to cineplex.com in the future. They charged a $2 fee AND we didn't get tickets but some print out that we had to show to get our tickets AND we didn't get any Scene Card points for the tickets. (I emailed them but they refused to refund me.) Once Garry and I had finished arguing about my screw-up it was acutally a fun evening. Mostly because of the crowd which was packed with very excitable kids who giggled and gasped in all the right places. It was a bit like seeing a Christmas panto. So if you have younger kids I'd say this movie is a must.

The A Team

Rainning Sunday here in Toronto so we thought we would go see a movie. Now as most people know I love the 80's, all things 80's - the music and the movies. So today we went to see The A-Team. A great show from the 80's which I used to watch religiously. I mean, Mr. T was a hero and no, I'm not joking. Luckily I really liked the new movie. It was lots of action and lots of fun. It was a great way to rememeber the A-Team. The new cast was great and seemed to enjoy their roles.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson is B.A. Baracus - excellent
Sharlto Copley is Murdock - best part of the movie
Liam Neeson is Hannibal - great leader
Bradley Cooper is Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck - plays the part like a pro

I loved the movie..lots of fun
4 out of 5 (if you go stay till the very end even through the credits..it's worth it)

This was a fun popcorn movie. No brain required. But I think having enjoyed the original series would add alot to the movie, just so you can appreciate the sense of fun and homage that the movie contains.

Splice

Splice is a good movie. I know just about everyone who reads this blog will never see it but I think you should. It's being put out as a horror sci-fi film but I think it is just a good film. The basic story is about 2 superstar genetic engineers and they splice a human and a creature together and this child-thing is born. They call this child Dren (nerd spelled backwards - which made me laugh)

The movie is a bit slow in parts but it is a great story and I liked it. It also helps that it was filmed in and around Toronto which I always like to see

I really enjoyed this. It was both hammy and predicatable plus well acted and disturbing. The characters weren't two dimensional (on the contrary actually) and the genetic splicing question is a really interesting premise. All the elements combined to make this a really fun romp.

Prince Of Persia

Cannot remember when I saw it....

So one Saturday when Liz was at Open Doors (which I assume she will post about at some point, right Liz?) I went to see the movie Prince Of Persia. I liked it, it wasn't great but okay. It's a Disney movie so there was no real violence, it was kinda like an Indiana Jones movie which I like but don't love. Jake Gyllenhaal is Dastan and he was fun and he looked great in the role but it was boring in parts.

I would say wait and watch this movie at home, don't bother paying to see it at the theatre.

Kevin Smith In Brantford 2010

So last year was our first time going to Brantford for the Walter Gretzky street hockey tournament. Last year we had a great time and this year was just as good. We got to Brantford later this year than last (still too early for Liz) but a good time to arrive for me. Brantford is about 90 minutes away from where we live so the drive was not too long. In fact we were early so we took some back roads to the event - it was too early for fruit and vegs market but it was still a nice ride.

We watched Kevin's team PUCK U play and it was great watching him dive for the ball and seeing all the guys running around the rink. After the game we went and had some dinner at Boston Pizza (wasn't that great). I am starting to hate those fast food kinda of places or maybe it's just the pizza I don't like...but that's another post.

After dinner we got in line to watch Kevin and Scott do a Smod Cast which is just the two of them talking. I know that sounds boring but we love it. (I've said this before but it's great to listen Kevin talk about anything.) Opening the show was another podcast called Telling Steve Dave which was great also.

All in all a great day watching some hockey and then Kevin Smith live.

O yeah when we where in line we had these losers behind us bitching about how they cannot pay the rent and how they lost their house and we started to feel sorry for them. The funny part was later they told us how they just paid "big bucks" for Roger Waters tickets and how great the concert was going to be. And I can tell you first hand that those tickets are expensive beacuse I bought a ticket for 2 of the 3 shows. I had to laugh. If you get a chance ask Liz about it as it was kinda funny.

So it was a fun day. BUT Garry likes to get there insanely early and not leave until everything is over, just in case we might miss something. I would happily miss a bunch of stuff and just check it out for a few hours. As it was we got to Brantford for 1pm and didn't get home until 1am. It was fun but not THAT much fun lol. But the people behind us in line were hysterical and may have made the whole trip for me. They were stood behind us for two hours and NEVER stopped talking the whole time. The woman had verbal diarrhea and no filter. She talked about losing their house, how nice their welfare housing is, smoking weed, how hard it is to keep a job when you sleep in your first day, her kid, how they're trying for another one - all without breathing. It was impressive, disturbing and annoying all at the same time.

Ireland Part 4--Kiss In Dublin

I guess someone up there must like me. We planned our trip to Ireland and then after we bought the flights I heard Kiss were going to be playing in Dublin.....right in the middle of our trip! I was out of my mind happy!

The concert was on a Friday but since we where on vacation the day did not really matter. This was going to the first time Liz saw the world's greatest band and will be my 32 time. (I was telling people when I was drunk that it was 50 but 32 is still alot and I was drunk so everything is bigger and better when you are drinking.)

Anyway the concert was amazing, it was great to see them in Dublin. It was pretty much the same show as the others but I still loved it and standing on the floor was kinda cool and we had a great view.

#32 was great and later this year I will see them again for #33. Maybe someday it will be 50 that's a goal lol.

We stopped at a hotel bar on the way to O2 Arena and the place was packed with people wearing KISS t-shirts under their denim jackets. So it turns out that Garry is right and he's NOT their only fan. At the concert I felt like an old lady trying to like the kids music - some of it was fine but mostly I didn't get what the fuss was about. And I kept thinking that Gene Simmons is 60 years old and he just put that skanky tongue away. But Garry was super excited and that was great fun. He bought himself a KISS scarf on the way home and was very pleased as that counts as proper European memorabilia because it's not something he's ever seen over here. Aterwards we grabbed some food at Super Macs (can't recommend it though) and caught the night bus back to Dad's.
