After I saw Jonah Hex and Liz saw Toy Story 3 (yes we went to different movies) we met and snuck into the movie Get Him To The Greek. This was a great movie. The surprise thing was it was funny but also kinda serious and the story was good. Puffy Daddy or whatever he's called was really good. There was one scene where myself and another guy in the theatre were on the floor laughing. To be fair there was only 5 people in the whole theatre for this movie but it was good.

I kinda like Russell Brand, he's always funny and I love the drunk English character he always plays. I suppose it was like the second part of the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshal but there is no need to see that movie to enjoy this one.

I think if you are in the mood to see a funny movie with a good story this is a good one.

Yeah, this was not a great movie. Anyone reading this should probably NOT see it. I was at a panel about this movie at last year's COMIC CON and it looked great but it wasn't.

The best part of this movie was it was only 74 mins long which includes the credits. I did laugh at few scenes but I don't think it was supposed to be funny. Megan Fox is only in this movie for a total of about 12 minutes and she doesn't even get naked so that can't save the movie....oh well.

Don't go see this movie stay home and watch Iron Man.

It was cheapy Tuesday at the movies so we decided to go check out Karate Kid 2010. It's rare for us to go to the movies during the week (unless it's a film festival or something special) but we thought what the heck. The first thing we noticed was that it was packed which makes sense but we did forget how busy it can be. The good part was the crowd was actually pretty good and did add something to the movie by cheering during certain parts,it was actually kind of fun.

The movie was okay, not great and for me not as good as the original but was worth seeing. I should confess that I did pass out for about 10 mintues, I'm pretty sure I didn't miss much but the movie was fucking long, like over 2 hours. Will Smith's son was okay as the kid but sometimes he was OVER the top.

The movie was fun, the crowd was fun and it was a pretty good night out. I would do a Tuesday night movie again as it was kinda fun.

Well this night finished better than it started as I ordered the tickets on-line from MovieTickets.com. Note-to-self (and everyone else): avoid them and go to cineplex.com in the future. They charged a $2 fee AND we didn't get tickets but some print out that we had to show to get our tickets AND we didn't get any Scene Card points for the tickets. (I emailed them but they refused to refund me.) Once Garry and I had finished arguing about my screw-up it was acutally a fun evening. Mostly because of the crowd which was packed with very excitable kids who giggled and gasped in all the right places. It was a bit like seeing a Christmas panto. So if you have younger kids I'd say this movie is a must.

Rainning Sunday here in Toronto so we thought we would go see a movie. Now as most people know I love the 80's, all things 80's - the music and the movies. So today we went to see The A-Team. A great show from the 80's which I used to watch religiously. I mean, Mr. T was a hero and no, I'm not joking. Luckily I really liked the new movie. It was lots of action and lots of fun. It was a great way to rememeber the A-Team. The new cast was great and seemed to enjoy their roles.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson is B.A. Baracus - excellent
Sharlto Copley is Murdock - best part of the movie
Liam Neeson is Hannibal - great leader
Bradley Cooper is Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck - plays the part like a pro

I loved the movie..lots of fun
4 out of 5 (if you go stay till the very end even through the credits..it's worth it)

This was a fun popcorn movie. No brain required. But I think having enjoyed the original series would add alot to the movie, just so you can appreciate the sense of fun and homage that the movie contains.

Splice

Splice is a good movie. I know just about everyone who reads this blog will never see it but I think you should. It's being put out as a horror sci-fi film but I think it is just a good film. The basic story is about 2 superstar genetic engineers and they splice a human and a creature together and this child-thing is born. They call this child Dren (nerd spelled backwards - which made me laugh)

The movie is a bit slow in parts but it is a great story and I liked it. It also helps that it was filmed in and around Toronto which I always like to see

I really enjoyed this. It was both hammy and predicatable plus well acted and disturbing. The characters weren't two dimensional (on the contrary actually) and the genetic splicing question is a really interesting premise. All the elements combined to make this a really fun romp.

Prince Of Persia

Cannot remember when I saw it....

So one Saturday when Liz was at Open Doors (which I assume she will post about at some point, right Liz?) I went to see the movie Prince Of Persia. I liked it, it wasn't great but okay. It's a Disney movie so there was no real violence, it was kinda like an Indiana Jones movie which I like but don't love. Jake Gyllenhaal is Dastan and he was fun and he looked great in the role but it was boring in parts.

I would say wait and watch this movie at home, don't bother paying to see it at the theatre.

Kevin Smith In Brantford 2010

So last year was our first time going to Brantford for the Walter Gretzky street hockey tournament. Last year we had a great time and this year was just as good. We got to Brantford later this year than last (still too early for Liz) but a good time to arrive for me. Brantford is about 90 minutes away from where we live so the drive was not too long. In fact we were early so we took some back roads to the event - it was too early for fruit and vegs market but it was still a nice ride.

We watched Kevin's team PUCK U play and it was great watching him dive for the ball and seeing all the guys running around the rink. After the game we went and had some dinner at Boston Pizza (wasn't that great). I am starting to hate those fast food kinda of places or maybe it's just the pizza I don't like...but that's another post.

After dinner we got in line to watch Kevin and Scott do a Smod Cast which is just the two of them talking. I know that sounds boring but we love it. (I've said this before but it's great to listen Kevin talk about anything.) Opening the show was another podcast called Telling Steve Dave which was great also.

All in all a great day watching some hockey and then Kevin Smith live.

O yeah when we where in line we had these losers behind us bitching about how they cannot pay the rent and how they lost their house and we started to feel sorry for them. The funny part was later they told us how they just paid "big bucks" for Roger Waters tickets and how great the concert was going to be. And I can tell you first hand that those tickets are expensive beacuse I bought a ticket for 2 of the 3 shows. I had to laugh. If you get a chance ask Liz about it as it was kinda funny.

So it was a fun day. BUT Garry likes to get there insanely early and not leave until everything is over, just in case we might miss something. I would happily miss a bunch of stuff and just check it out for a few hours. As it was we got to Brantford for 1pm and didn't get home until 1am. It was fun but not THAT much fun lol. But the people behind us in line were hysterical and may have made the whole trip for me. They were stood behind us for two hours and NEVER stopped talking the whole time. The woman had verbal diarrhea and no filter. She talked about losing their house, how nice their welfare housing is, smoking weed, how hard it is to keep a job when you sleep in your first day, her kid, how they're trying for another one - all without breathing. It was impressive, disturbing and annoying all at the same time.

Ireland Part 4--Kiss In Dublin

I guess someone up there must like me. We planned our trip to Ireland and then after we bought the flights I heard Kiss were going to be playing in Dublin.....right in the middle of our trip! I was out of my mind happy!

The concert was on a Friday but since we where on vacation the day did not really matter. This was going to the first time Liz saw the world's greatest band and will be my 32 time. (I was telling people when I was drunk that it was 50 but 32 is still alot and I was drunk so everything is bigger and better when you are drinking.)

Anyway the concert was amazing, it was great to see them in Dublin. It was pretty much the same show as the others but I still loved it and standing on the floor was kinda cool and we had a great view.

#32 was great and later this year I will see them again for #33. Maybe someday it will be 50 that's a goal lol.

We stopped at a hotel bar on the way to O2 Arena and the place was packed with people wearing KISS t-shirts under their denim jackets. So it turns out that Garry is right and he's NOT their only fan. At the concert I felt like an old lady trying to like the kids music - some of it was fine but mostly I didn't get what the fuss was about. And I kept thinking that Gene Simmons is 60 years old and he just put that skanky tongue away. But Garry was super excited and that was great fun. He bought himself a KISS scarf on the way home and was very pleased as that counts as proper European memorabilia because it's not something he's ever seen over here. Aterwards we grabbed some food at Super Macs (can't recommend it though) and caught the night bus back to Dad's.

Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard, Sunday night at Massey Hall. I'm not the biggest Eddie Izzard fan, all I really know is that he is a transvestite comedian and I've seen in a few movies and shows on TV with him, that's about it. So I had a totally open mind and I just wanted to have a few laughs. They never came, I did not laugh once and I really wanted to - honestly. I have to say he sucked and I wanted to leave about 20 minutes in....totally waste of a good Sunday night. Now Liz she laughed alot and I think I saw her laugh so hard she had tears and I have no idea what the fuck was so funny.

He sucked and the best thing was watching him walk in his VERY VERY high heels.

He wasn't as funny as I'd hoped. But he did do a skit on the latin language and how ridiculously complicated it was. As did latin in prep school I knew exactly what he as talking about and was in absolute hysterics when he was doing a made up conversation between two roman soldiers trying to pass on messages about being invaded. Garry, like most of the audience, and like me in many other parts of the show, had no interest or knowledge of the topic and therefore was bored to tears. So he's was mildly entertaining but for the most part not worth it.

Ireland Part 3

The Driving and The Roads

Irish roads: all I can say is they are fucking small. The car I drive here in Toronto would never make it in on the roads over there, just too big. We had a small blue car, not the cool blue but baby blue. And when we picked it up the car had scratches all over it. Both Liz and I thought this was great because how could they blame anything on us.

I was off the plane and straight behind the wheel. As most of you know they drive on the wrong side of the road and the steering wheel is on the opposite side from here. As it turns out it wasn't actually that hard to get the hang of. The worst part was roundabouts. I mean what the fuck are those things? The first one I stopped at I was totally lost. The rule is look right and then go when you see a gap.

The roads in the country and around the streets of Dublin are very, very tiny. It was hard to have cars trying to pass each other going in opposite directions and on some roads you have to pull over and let one car go at a time - crazy. But driving up the coast from Galway at some points was great and the roads are like a race track with all the turns and ups and downs, it was alot of fun driving all over Ireland.

One day Liz's Dad was driving us around the countryside and that guy drives like a maniac but it was alot of fun and he showed no fear when the cars where close enough to touch as we passed each other.

The worst day for driving was when some girl did not see us and hit the side of the car. Yes, she did not see us and just hit the passenger side of our car. I have no idea how she missed us but she did. All I remember was the noise and I thought o my god who did I hit! I freaked out. Liz was very calm and she handled all the exchange of information as I walked around saying why me, why me. It really wasn't that much damage but I have to admit I did have a freak out....it was just a bad day. More on that later.

By the end the holiday I loved the roundabouts as it did seem to speed up traffic and for aggressive drivers like me it was great. So I look forward to driving in Ireland the next time we go over and this time I know I'll be better and less nervous and maybe I'll have less people in the car yelling at me and freaking me out....yes, I am talking about my crazy mother-in-law (yes, you Anne).

The roads were too hard for me. Garry's not a slow driver and that's normally fine but he kept turning right when I said left and using the wipers instead of the blinker and my nerves were shot to hell. The ding with the other car was just the icing on the cake. That night involved me crying and saying that I wanted to go back to Canada, to be in my own bed and 2 weeks was too long to be away. So as you can see I got a little bit carried away lol. Anyway after a cry, in which Garry was very, very nice to me and helped me keep things in perspective, I started to feel better. And actually Garry did a fantastic job of driving on roads that were made for rally races, over bridges you couldn't go on if there was a car coming the other way and learning how roundabouts worked whilst I just closed my eyes, held my breath and hoped for the best.

Robin Hood 2010

So I really not looking forward to seeing this movie but I did go as it was kinda worth a look.I liked the Kevin Costner Robin Hood back in the 1991 and you know I really like this Robin Hood It was a Ridley Scott film and I find most of his films fun and entertaining and he makes the kind of movies I like.Russell Crowe was a good robin hood and the best character was Kevin Durand as Little John he was very fun and took over the screen whenever he was on the screen.

The story is not your typical Robin Hood film as it is kind of the story of the making of Robin Hood it was fun to see a new take on the story we already know.

I think people should see this movie as it way better then I thought

IRON MAN 2

Well as we where flying back from Ireland I was already trying to figure out when we could go see Iron Man 2. We arrived home on Saturday, May 15 and we went to see the movie on Sunday, May 16 - the earliest I could go.

I loved Iron Man 1, it was one of the best superhero movies ever so I was pumped to see part 2. I was looking forward to seeing Robert Downey back and even thought that Mickey Rourke would be good as Whiplash. But to me this movie was not as good as the first one. I thought the story was kind of all mixed up and slow in parts. I am not sure if I was just sleepy and maybe had the bar set too high but it was a little disappointing to me. I didn't hate it but it didn't blow me away.

As I write this I'm thinking I have to see this movie again and really give it another look. But this time I would give this movie

Ireland Part 2

I like Guinness. Although if I'm being honest I should say that I love Guinness. I had my first Guiness on my first day in Ireland (but not my first hour lol). I thought I have to try one but during the evening that one turned into eight and I never looked back. I believe I drank more Gunniess in the 2 weeks in Ireland than I have in all my previous years put together.

Some of the guys I was drinking with told me the Guinnes tates different all over the world and in fact they said all over Ireland. I thought bullshit but you know they're right. In fact I had my best Guinness at one of the older pubs in Dublin city centre (Keogh's). So I now tell everyone that there is a difference where you buy it. I thought Guiness would be heavy but it really wasn't it tasted great and it really reminds of Ireland.

So I would like to say I LOVE GUINNESS...

The boy drank soooo much Guinness! I was totally stunned watching him pack away the pints. Then he started banging on about how the Guinness in A was much better than in B - I was sure he was talking shite and just pretending he could taste a difference (you couldn't pay me to drink the stuff). After a few discussions with the local ol' fella propping up the bar at verious establishments it seems that he wasn't making it up and he even got ideas of where else to visit for a good pint. And of course our tour of the Guinness brewery was fun. It's very interactive and they even teach you how to pull your own proper pint - there's a lot more to it than you'd think. But in the end it wasn't the Guinness that did Garry in, it was the Bacardi chasers back at the house afterwards. Let me just say.....Garry is a very annoying drunk. I think it's because he doesn't get drunk....well.....ever so he hasn't learned any being-drunk-manners. As a result he thinks he's funny and thinks he's being helpful and thinks he's quiet. However playing air guitar whilst sitting on the bed at 4am is none of those things. Insisting that HE could get the glass of water from downstairs also none of those things. And if he could have been just a little bit hung over the next day I think I could be a little more forgiving. But no, the bugger bounces out of bed at 6am as though he's slept like baby for 8 hours. Needless to say he wasn't popular with me that morning. 'Nuff said.

Ireland part 1

Well Liz and I have been back from Ireland for a few weeks but as you can see no updates. We have decided that a day by day thing would be to hard so I am going to write about different events as I remember them and they will not be in any order..so here goes

Ireland Post 1

Flights to and from: our flight to Ireland was at 11:30pm which is waaaay past my bed-time and the first time I've had an overnight flight. When we found our seats we saw that there where like 6 babies on the flight, all seated near us and we thought it was going to be a problem. But about 30 minutes in all the kids were sleeping. About 50 minutes in Liz and I passed out and there we where in and out of our dreams for most of the flight. In fact we slept right through the food, now I know plane food sucks but it was free. And if you know me you know I love free. But it wasn't meant to be.

When we landed in Ireland and went to pick up the luggage I was seeing all these sign's in English and something else. I couldn't figure out what it was so I asked Liz and she told me it was Irish. Well I just about lost it, aged 42 and I had no idea that Irish was a language! I know, I know! This makes me sound really dumb but honestly I has no idea. Yes I know other countries have there own language but I have never heard anyone speak or even talk ABOUT the Irish language....and I felt
very dumb. In the weeks to come Liz would tell this story and every time I felt really stupid but no word of a lie, I had no idea.

Liz's Dad was there to get us and off we went driving to his house....driving that's another post.
